For far too many in our community, having the financial resources to navigate life is a challenge. Paychecks are stretched, unexpected expenses happen, and options are limited.

Community Services League (CSL) assists thousands of our neighbors each year in the Kansas City area. Providing help today, and hope for tomorrow. In 2014, we launched a program with Holy Rosary Credit Union to provide an affordable alternative to high cost emergency borrowing - like payday loans.

Based on the success of this program, CSL expanded our impact by taking ownership of NextStepKC in 2018 - a community initiative that shared the same goals.

To date, these partnerships have made more than $3 million in loans to help cover unexpected expenses for families that have limited access to affordable borrowing, due to poor credit or other financial challenges. With every loan, our partner network provides financial coaching and a host of other services to help build stability and self-sufficiency for those struggling financially.

With a major commitment from North American Savings Bank, we’re taking the next step with NextStepKC. Launching new channels to communicate the program, building new loan programs, or housing instability, covering emergency expenses and more.

NextStepKC is an initiative built on collaboration. Nonprofit service agencies referring clients for loans, like the Guadalupe Center, Jewish Vocational Services, and others. Participating lenders, including Holy Rosary Credit Union and Central Bank of Kansas City. Financial supporters, like North American Savings Bank, Central Bank of the Midwest, and others providing critical funding. These collaborations are what makes NextStepKC a successful initiative.
